Resistance at Tule Lake Screening

Resistance at Tule Lake: This new documentary by Konrad Aderer, shown on Feb 9th at the Mission Valley Public Library, tells the story of the 12,000 Japanese and Japanese American "no-no's" who protested the injustice of incarceration and faced impossible dilemmas with the required government loyalty questionnaire. Branded as "disloyals" and "troublemakers" and moved to the separate high-security Tule Lake Segregation Center, internees were later offered they could renounce their American citizenship and be shipped to Japan. Film was followed by discussion led by Susan Hasegawa, Prof of History, SD City College, and Casey Tanaka, former mayor of Coronado, and high school history and government teacher.
